1. IHEP Computing Environment User Manual¶
This manual introduces the Computing Center (CC) computing platform and helps readers quickly understand the cluster environment and how to use it. It also explains how users can use the services provided by the IHEP computing platform to meet the needs of their experiments.
Introduction to the Computing Center¶
The Computing Center of the Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was established in 1974. After decades of development, it now operates a leading high-performance computing platform in China, including a world-class grid site, a large heterogeneous computing cluster, and advanced storage systems. The platform supports offline data processing for major domestic high-energy physics and astrophysics experiments such as BESIII, Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment, Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory, and HXMT. It also provides computing services for high-energy light source design, accelerator physics, theoretical physics, molecular dynamics, quantum chemistry, and related research. The platform also actively participates in computing support for the international LHC experiments.
Computing Cluster Overview¶
Provided Services¶
1. Computing Services¶
The compute nodes include a high-throughput HTCondor cluster with 13,500 CPU cores, a 0.5 PFlops mixed GPU and CPU Slurm cluster, and a distributed computing system connected to computing resources around the world. The platform network bandwidth reaches 20 GB.
2. Storage Services¶
- File Systems The Computing Center has nearly 20 PB of total storage, including 13 PB of disk storage and 7 PB of tape storage. The main storage systems include AFS file storage, EOS file storage, Lustre file storage, and tape library storage.
3. Interactive Analysis Workbench¶
- Interactive Analysis Workbench INK provides dedicated interactive computing node services (Enode), as well as tools such as VS Code, Jupyter, RootBrowser, VNC, and Shell. Its dashboard presents job information and resource usage visually, helping users track task progress in real time.
4. Device Management¶
The computing environment provides device management services.
