12.7 LHCb¶

The IHEP Computing Center provides WLCG multi-tier grid site services for the LHCb experiment, including Tier-1 and Tier-3.

12.7.1 LHCb Tier-1¶

On June 27, 2024, the LHCb Tier-1 site, jointly built by the National High Energy Physics Science Data Center and the IHEP Computing Center , passed WLCG international certification, becoming the only Tier-1 site in Asia and the ninth globally , and is now in production.

Resources¶

Type	Capacity	Notes
CPU	3,218 cores	Intel Xeon Platinum 8352Y
Disk	14.8 PB	DELL PowerVault ME484
Tape	27.4 PB	Lenovo TS4500, LTO9 drives

Milestones¶

Date	Event
Oct 2022	LHCb China Group decided to build Tier-1
Dec 2022	WLCG officially confirmed the BEIJING-T1 site
Jun 2023	Hardware deployment and software configuration completed
Oct 2023	LHCOPN network link established
Jun 2024	Passed WLCG OB review, officially joined WLCG

International Network¶

CSTNet provides a 100 Gbps dedicated link to Europe: IHEP → Singapore → Marseille → GEANT → CERN
Two 100 Gbps backup links for reliability
Peak data transfer performance exceeds 50 Gbps
Connected to LHCOPN (Tier-0 ↔ Tier-1 private network) and LHCONE (the LHC open community network)

The Tier-1 site handles newly produced data storage, raw data backup, and refined computing for LHCb. China also holds seats on the WLCG Overview Board and Management Board.

12.7.2 LHCb Tier-3¶
