12.8.1 Storage Directories

Storage available to HXMT users includes public storage provided by the computing cluster and storage owned by the HXMT project. Users should plan where to place files, code, and data according to the characteristics of each storage area.

Public storage includes personal user directories under AFS with a 500 MB quota, as well as scratchfs and workfs.

HXMT project storage contains the following areas:

Path Quota Characteristics Usage notes
/hxmt/work Dynamically controlled by project needs Large-capacity work directory User directories are created under USER. Do not create directories directly under work without permission.
/hxmt/home 5 GB, 50,000 files User directory with regular backup and recycle bin Pay attention to hidden files in the home directory. Some software depends on them. If the home directory is full, software in other directories may fail to run correctly.

12.8.2.4 Software Usage Notes

  1. Python Anaconda suites

The servers provide Anaconda2 and Anaconda3, including Python 2.7, Python 3.6, and related libraries. Users who previously installed their own Anaconda are encouraged to use the shared installation to reduce storage consumption.

Add the following line to .bashrc to use Anaconda2:

export PATH="/hxmt/soft/Develop/anaconda2/bin:$PATH"

To use Anaconda3, run source activate python36 or use another standard environment switching method. Contact the administrator if a package needs to be added or upgraded.

  1. Newer GCC development tools

The operating system provides GCC 4.4.7 by default. To use newer development tools:

  • Run gcc64 before using GCC 6.4.0.
  • Run cmake38 before using CMake 3.8.2.

Other newer tools and libraries, such as glibc 2.22, autoconf 2.69, binutils 2.29, and boost 1.57.0, are also available. Use them as needed for development.
